In 2005,
the YWCA Family Center opened...

Our new facility for homeless families offers safe, comfortable accommodations and child care for families in Franklin County who are experiencing an immediate housing  crises.

Located  on the near northeast side of Columbus, the Family Center offers support and sanctuary to up to 50 families a night. Families are assigned private bedrooms  and are linked with supportive services to help them get swiftly back on their feet.

Professional staff offer an array of services including job counseling, case management, housing placement assistance, child advocacy and much more.

The YWCA Safe and Sound program offers onsite licensed day childcare for the little ones and out-of-school programming for school-aged kids. Our 24-hour facility is equipped with a computer resource room, laundry facilities and access to after school tutors.

are not alone...

The likelihood of housing crisis increases for those who live at or below the  poverty line. And the problems associated with a housing crisis are worsened when a family lives with abuse, mental health struggles, physical health issues, language barriers, or underemployment.

If  you, or someone you know, are in housing crisis, or are in danger of losing housing, please call our hotline 614-253-3910.

Our triage team will help assess your immediate needs, and will refer you to resources to stay housed if you are sheltered, or connect you with sanctuary if you are in need. Staff members journey with families as they stabilize. The trained triage team  assesses families’ abilities and needs, and prioritizes helping them find safe and affordable housing. Those who enter permanent housing may have access to ongoing aftercare to help connect them with community resources —  and stay in their new home.

You are not alone. You journey with an entire community — the YWCA Family Center.

Volunteers give time, talent and treasure

Folks of every walk of life, young and old, give of themselves by working at the Center.  People like you can advocate with elected officials and social institutions to improve the conditions for the homeless. Through the action of this community,  the YWCA Columbus Family Center provides hope.

Family Center volunteers read to children, counsel parents, share legal expertise, arrange outings, plan parties, enter data and build lockers. Whatever your gifts, you have a place at the Center. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, or about current material needs of newly homed families, call the Family Center Volunteer Coordinator. You can also view the Group Volunteer Activities Calendar.

Individuals and organizations are also invited to advocate for affordable housing and against Poverty. Resources and training are available within the YWCA and the larger community. Call the Family Center Site Manager for more information.

How you can make a difference in your community

The work of the  Family Center is supported not only through the actions of congregations and volunteers, but also through various contributions. Through material donations, financial contributions, planned giving or organizational grants, you can help create the vision of community that is the mission of the Family Center and assure that we’ll be here for as long as we’re needed.

Some of the items needed every day include baby formula, diapers of all sizes, sheets, towels, blankets and more. Our full-service kitchen is in need of spices, non-perishable food items, beverages and frozen meats on a regular basis.

For more information, call the Volunteer Coordinator at (614) 253-3910.
