  Chief Executive Officer

We are searching for a dynamic and experienced leader to join our organization in the role of CEO (Chief Executive Officer). The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, serving as a managing director of day- to- day operations of the YWCA. This includes overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization.

Other key duties include supervision of staff, fundraising, marketing and community outreach. The CEO will further the organization’s mission, vision and strategic goals--internally and throughout the state and YWCA community. The ideal candidate for this position will have previous experience in non-profit organization management and operations. The CEO will embody the YWCA Alaska’s mission to eliminate racism and empower women in all work done for or on behalf of the YWCA Alaska.



• Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the organization’s strategic goals as outlined in the Board approved Strategic Plan.
• Actively engage and energize YWCA Alaska’s volunteers, Board of Directors, alumni, partnering organization supporters and general community members at large.
• Represent YWCA Alaska to its stakeholders and the larger community at special and donor events, strategically-selected professional meetings and public functions.
• Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress of annual program plans and long-range organizational goals; regularly evaluates program components to measure success that can be effectively communicated to board, funders, other constituents and community.
• Maintain effective and productive relationships with YWCA USA and the Women of the West group of Northwestern YWCA CEO’s.
• Periodically review and revise personnel policies and procedures for Board review and approval.


• Responsible for the fiscal integrity of YWCA Alaska, to include submission to the Board of proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
• Utilizing sound financial practices to expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations.
• Ensures the organization operates within budget guidelines and its adopted financial policies and procedures.
• Work with the Director of Finance to provide timely and accurate reports of financial performance to the Board of Directors and designated board committees. Periodically review and revise financial policies and procedures.


• Build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with prospective and active individual, corporate and foundation donors (locally and national level), and political and community leaders at each expansion site.
• Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations - with the goal of increasing YWCA Alaska impact throughout the state.
• Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.
• Research prospective new programs and activities based on community need and available organization resources.


• Lead the YWCA Alaska’s EconEquity, the initiative to eliminate the gender pay gap in Alaska by 2025. Build on the work already completed and move forward to ensure successful completion of this initiative.
• Work to identify and develop key community partnerships to help the implementation of this project and secure the funding necessary to complete.

Aurora Project

• Implement the Aurora Project, a mentoring program that has been designed but not yet tested.
• Work to identify and develop key community partnerships to help the implementation of this project and secure the funding necessary to complete.


• Serve as YWCA Alaska’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
• Oversee all aspects of the day to day operations of YWCA Alaska.
• Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to create policy, raise funds, and increase the overall visibility of YWCA Alaska throughout the state
• Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance YWCA Alaska’s mission.
• Attend monthly Board of Directors and board committee meetings; provide financial and other information in preparation as requested and/or needed in order to keep Board fully informed on the condition of YWCA Alaska and all important factors impacting the organization.
• Hire, lead, coach, develop and retain YWCA Alaska’s high-performance administrative and program staff.
• Development, implementation, and oversight of board approved strategic plan, annual budget and program operations
• Ensure financial success and donor development outcomes of all board approved development events.
• Ensure YWCA Alaska compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laws.
• Abide by all YWCA Alaska policies, procedures and by-laws.
• Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.


• A Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Three years management experience leading a donor-supported non-profit organization.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must have strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
• Must have a valid Alaska Driver’s License and proof of insurance


• Travel may be necessary, up to 20% out of town/state occasionally for YWCA Alaska business and training purposes.


• Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate new and strengthen existing board member relationships.
• Strong marketing, communications and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
• Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
• Bilingual or multilingual.
• Current or previous experience with YWCA as employee, board member, or volunteer


• High level knowledge of best-practices non-profit organization management and operations, including budgeting and financial reporting, fundraising, grant writing, volunteer and donor relations, and community engagement.
• Ability to project professionalism and promote the YWCA Alaska’s mission & programs, consistently displaying integrity and model behavior.
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people from a wide range of cultures, faiths, beliefs, experiences, lifestyles and practices.
• Ability to speak to groups of varying size with little or no advance preparation.
• Ability to effectively and professionally manage high volume of direct phone and email communications and delegate as needed.
• Capable of influencing and enabling change without a negative impact upon organization or strain between staff and Board.


• Job is performed in an office setting with extended periods of sitting, exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting.
