2014 will be a critical year. Opponents of equality could try to repeal a number of EQCA-backed laws through referendums, and many candidate races, both in California and at the federal level, will shape our ability to advance LGBT equality. Register to vote now and ensure that you never miss an election by signing up to vote by mail.

Never Miss an Election

You can vote from the comfort of your own home – no driving to a polling place, no waiting in line and no time wasted! Become a permanent vote-by-mail voter (formerly referred to as “absentee voting”) and automatically receive your ballot by mail for every election.

Here’s how:

  • Print and fill out the vote-by-mail application.
  • Check the box to become a permanent vote-by-mail voter.
  • Don’t forget to sign your application!
  • Send the application by mail to your local county elections office. Be sure to allow enough time for your application to get to their office at least 10 days before the election. We strongly suggest you mail it well in advance.

Who can vote by mail? Any registered voter can. So long as you checked the box to become a permanent vote-by-mail voter, you will automatically receive a ballot by mail for each election as long as you continue to vote.

However, if you don’t vote in a statewide election, your name will be deleted from the permanent vote-by-mail voter list. If that happens, you’ll need to go through the steps above to get your ballots by mail again. You will not lose your status as a registered voter.

Register to vote

Registering online is easy and fast. Just fill out the voter registration form, print it and send it to your local county elections office. The address for this office will be automatically filled in when you enter your own address.

You can also get a voter registration form at your closest post office, library or DMV office, or request one by mail by calling 1-800-345-VOTE.
