Racial Justice

Racial Justice Programming is one of YWCA USA’s hallmark programs. Racial justice works to achieve the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism. We have the following ongoing programs:

Race Against Racism: 5K run/walk is an event that unites people of all races and ages to demonstrate the community’s commitment to eliminating racism.

Anti-Biased Curriculum: Curriculum in our early learning centers that takes an active approach to challenging bias and prejudice, teaching children to respect each other’s difference.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Every January, the YWCA York’s QOP Program and Penn State York Campus collaborate to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. and his peaceful legacy.

On October 27, 2009, the York City Human Relations Commission presented the YWCA with the Commissioner James McDonald Special Award recognizing the YWCA’s work in our racial justice programming.
