Prop. 8 and the Supreme Court

June 29, 2013 The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has lifted the stay of Federal District Court Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision that Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California, is unconstitutional. Marriage licenses will be issued immediately at county clerk offices throughout the state.

June 26, 2013 The United States Supreme Court has dismissed the final appeal in Hollingsworth v. Perry, better known as the Proposition 8 case, restoring the freedom to marry in California. The Court ruled by a vote of 5-4 that the proponents of Prop. 8 had no standing to bring the appeal.
