Join us for a special day of youth empowerment and action

January 21, 2019
8:30am - 5:00pm

Grade 5-10

Exploring the past and examining our present, the program promotes youth discovery of civil rights heroes- the ordinary people who changed this country- and invites discussion of the work needed for today and tomorrow. The goals are to deepen awareness, amplify youth voices and empower youth to take the responsible next steps for the way forward. Led by professional youth facilitators, participants will:

  • Go on missions through museum exhibits to find clues of the past that explain the present
  • Watch dynamic short films about child civil rights heroes and snippets of the Starz docu-series
    “America to Me”
  • See a live multimedia Living Voices play, A Right to Dream
  • Engage in dialogue in the _SpaceToTalkAboutRace workshop
  • Create a social justice art piece envisioning the world we want to create. [Could be a poster, poem, slogan, meme,… You choose.]
  • In the oratorial spirit of Dr. King, step up to the mic and share some words.
  • Snap photos and enter the MOT Instagram MLKDAY photo contest! Winner receives a prize.

The day includes lunch: (Please let us know about special dietary needs.)
