Meet Ryan "Red" Huntington
I moved to Eastern in the Winter of 2011 to continue my higher education pursuits. Within my first year, I found a new home in Housing and Residence Life here at Eastern. Since then, I have always felt an extra sense of dedication to both Eastern and the Ypsilanti area. Last year when I heard about the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk for the first time, I thought that would be a great opportunity to start giving back to a community that has given so much to me. Then one day it hit me, I have a huge beard, and I am not sure what to do with it, so let the people decide! That was when I first developed my concept for “Save It or Shave It”. Now, the beard is over two and a half years old, and over 17 inches long! You get to decide if I save it, or shave it!
Why the Heart Walk?
I chose the Heart Walk because heart disease is the leading cause of death, and my entire family has been intimately affected by both heart disease and stroke. I too am at a very high risk for heart disease. This year I walk for those who cannot in the hopes that they might get the chance to walk again some day.
Why Save it or Shave it?
The theme of the Heart Walk is "being a Heart Hero." Being a hero isn't about having super powers or being super skilled. Being a hero is about giving what you can to make a difference for others. For that reason, I give my beard to the Heart Walk, and let you decide what happens next.
How can I vote whether "Save It" or "Shave It"?
By filling out the donation form below and making a donation, you will be able to choose the radio button whether your donation is a vote to "Save It" or "Shave It". Thank you in advance for your donation!
Stay tuned and find out at the Heart Walk whether my beard will be
SAVED or SHAVED!
