|STEM Week Concept… Be a part of this new summer camp!|
STEM Boy Scout Summer Camp
Greater St. Louis Area Council, BSA
Camp May – Beaumont Scout Reservation
Sunday, July 27 thru Saturday, August 2, 2014
Check In, Sunday at 1 p.m.
This week will be an extraordinary experience for Boy Scouts. Over 30 STEM based merit badges may be offered - the suggested list is below. Scouts will work on one merit badge or NOVA badge each day and an opportunity to work on other badges in the evening. Afternoons and evenings will include other outrageous STEM program and exhibits to experience. If you want more in science, technology, engineering, and math, this is the week to be at. Order of the Arrow activities will not be offered.
A special t-shirt and patch will be given to participants by attending this week. After registering, participants will be sent the Program manual or you can download it in the Camping – Boy Scout section of the Council webpage – www.stlbsa.org The health form will also be sent via email.
All Boy Scouts of any age are welcome to attend, however, we do recommend that a Scout has had one prior week-long experience. 210 spots available.
Reservation fee is $10 per Scout and is not refundable after March 1. Unused reservation fees cannot be applied to any other camp expense and, if not used, will be forfeited. Total fee is $235 if paid by March 1, or $250. All fees must be paid by July 1.
Scouts can sign up individually and need to indicate if they need the Provisional Troop or if they will be attending with their Troop with adult leadership attending.
We encourage Troop leaders to attend even if there is only one that can do so from the Troop. We anticipate a large opportunity for several Provisional Troops and needing adult leaders to provide shared leadership. Each campsite will be capped at 30 Scouts. Campsite assignments will be sent out in advance. We would appreciate greatly any Troop leader willing to help.
Leaders at Camp May are charged only an $85 fee to cover food costs/t-shirt. One leader is free with 3 to 10 Scouts attending this week. One additional leader is free for each additional 10 Scouts or fraction thereof.
Visiting leaders may also purchase individual meals at $5 per meal. Guest meals must be paid for at the Emerson Center (Camp May headquarters).
To Make Full Payments
Scouts who register for $10 to hold a spot will be sent a form via email to mail in/drop off to the Scout office their remaining balance by March 1. After July 1, if full payment is not made the spot held will be forfeited. The form will also require a signature from the Scout’s Scoutmaster to approve the Scout attending this week – only needed for Scouts needing Provisional Troop. So make sure that communication is taking place!
Leaders attending camp who do not meet the ‘free adult’ ratio are asked to submit their $85 fee by June 1. Please use this webpage to register and pay.
Refunds cannot be made at summer camp. All requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Camping Department within 30 days of the Individual’s/Troop’s departure from camp. The maximum refund per Scout is $150. Refunds are not available for those arriving in camp late or leaving early. No refunds are made after September 30, 2014.
The Scouts will have an opportunity to do ONE daily Advancement badge, Monday thru Friday, in the morning thru afternoon session. The Advancement Badges to choose from include the various STEM based Merit Badges and the four NOVA awards. So basically 5 awards minimum for the week to earn. There is also evening badge options that they can earn one more merit badge. Scouts must select one NOVA award to work on at camp unless they have all four NOVAs already earned. For Scouts interested in working on a Supernova award, a Mentor will be available to meet with during the week.
For Scout registration submissions below, the PRIMARY contact should be a parent or guardian’s address information with the best email address to be reached for further communications.
Next, please type in the “Special Comments” box below the Scout's list of his top 10 choices between all the merit badges and the NOVAS listed that he wishes to work on, in ranking order 1-10. We will do our best to give the Scout his top 5 choices and send advance notice on what badge the Scout will have assigned for each day.
After you have provided your top 10, please also indicate which of these STEM badges you have already earned by typing: EARNED - (and then list them).
The following badges will be potentially offered:
