Calvary Hospital is a very special place. Since 1899, we have been devoted to the care of adult patients with advanced cancer and other life limiting illnesses.  Our mission is to make all patients as emotionally and physically comfortable as possible and to care for their families.

Each year, Calvary cares for more than 6,000 patients from throughout the greater New York area. We provide a continuum of care including inpatienthospice and home care.  We care for patients at our 200-bed Bronx hospital, 25-bed Brooklyn campus at NYU Lutheran, The Dawn Greene Hospice, a 10-bed unit at Mary Manning Walsh Home in Manhattan, and Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home.

Over the years, Calvary has been very fortunate to have the support of many individuals, families, corporations and foundations. Their support helps ensure that Calvary care will always be available to people who need it the most.  Here are a few examples of the creative ways donors support us:

Go Fund Me

Joey's parents

Brooklyn native Joseph Peritore-Prince who found a creative way to support the Calvary mission. Joey was very grateful for the care that his parents received at Calvary’s Brooklyn Campus in 2007 and 2016. So for his 40th birthday on April 28, 2017, he conducted a “GoFundMe” campaign to raise $4,000 in their honor. ( Joey surpassed his goal by more than 11%, raising $4,462 that will benefit the Brooklyn Campus! Way to go!!!

A True Friend to Calvary

When Joseph G. Cairo, Jr. lost his wife, Pat, to cancer, in 1995, he wanted to thank Calvary.  Mr. Cairo was instrumental in getting the End-of-Life law passed in the New York State legislature to ensure that terminally ill people who wanted Calvary's signature care could get it.  He also founded a foundation in honor of his wife's memory.  In the 20 years since it was formed, The Pat Cairo Family Foundation has raised more than $1,915,000 million dollars for Calvary.

In 2016, the Foundation donated an additional $75,000 specifically to renovate the four staff nurse lounges at the Bronx Campus.  We dedicated the lounges in 4Q 2016.  (see Picture).

Knights of Columbus

More than 37 years ago, the New York Chapter of the Knights of Columbus designated Calvary to receive the fruits of their annual fundraising efforts. In addition to an annual dinner for hundreds of people, this chapter hosts an annual Communion Mass and breakfast at Calvary. To date, the New York Knights have raised more than $1,125,000 for the Hospital’s entire range of services and programs.
