A Message From the President

From our humble beginnings in 1899 on Perry Street in Greenwich Village, Calvary has grown tremendously in scope over the years. Whether we are providing inpatient care, home care, hospice, outpatient care, or wound care, we are guided by our mission: to bring Calvary’s compassionate, expert care to terminally ill people suffering from advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and to care for the families with the same love and sensitivity as we provide to the patients.

In addition to our Bronx and Brooklyn facilities, Calvary@Home brings our signature care to hundreds of people every day wherever they reside. Now with The Dawn Greene Hospice in Manhattan, we are reaching more people than ever before.

In 2016, Calvary marked several milestones:

  • We cared for more than 6,000 patients and families throughout the greater New York area. They received our signature care at our 200-bed Bronx campus, 25-bed Brooklyn satellite at NYU Lutheran, 10-bed Dawn Greene Hospice and in their homes.

  • The Dawn Greene Hospice at Mary Manning Walsh Home, under the supervision of Calvary@Home – allows us to bring Calvary’s signature care to Manhattan residents who need short-term inpatient care. The generosity of The Jerome L. Greene Foundation and Mrs. Dawn Greene herself made this all possible.

  • The Calvary Fund raised nearly $8 million for our programs and services.

  • Calvary continues to welcome patients and families from all faith backgrounds. We felt that this was an important venue to educate the observant Jewish community about existing options in end-of-life care.

  • We marked 11 consecutive years of Press Ganey Awards for our consistent rankings in the 99th percentile for overall patient satisfaction.

  • The NYS End-of-Life law ensures that terminally ill people who wanted Calvary’s signature care could get it, when they choose.

All of us are proud to be able to make our patients and their families as physically, spiritually and emotionally comfortable as possible. We appreciate the privilege of caring for those most in need of our care, at a most difficult time of their lives.
