About The Shrine

Welcome to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Internet site. As the United States’ patronal church and preeminent Marian shrine, the Basilica’s mission reaches hundreds of thousands of people across America and across the world.

Here you will find a short catechesis on the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom the Shrine honors under her title of the Immaculate Conception. The Basilica’s history is also chronicled here and the treasures of its archive are accessible here as well.

Nothing can compare with an actual visit to the Shrine, although we have provided a virtual tour for Internet visitors to become familiar with this beautiful church and its many chapels and oratories. You’ll find links above to plan a visit to the Shrine and learn about its ministries too.

Please join the Shrine community while online. You’ll receive periodic updates about the Shrine and its activities, as well as notices about updates to this site.

I thank you for your interest and ask your support. The Shrine is funded through the donations of its visitors and those who support its mission from afar. May God bless you for your generosity.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Monsignor Walter R. Rossi, J.C.L.
