What is an advocate?

Alzheimer advocates play an important role in improving the quality of care and quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families by working to improve dementia care and services; improve access to community-based care; improve quality care in residential settings; and expand funding for research and public programs serving people with dementia.

As an advocate, you will:

  • Receive regular updates about current legislative and public policy issues.
  • Stay on top of policy and legislative issues through alerts and updates.
  • Make calls or write to legislators to forward public policy priorities to improve quality of life for those living with Alzheimer’s.

Ohio advocacy

The West Virginia Chapter currently serves six counties in eastern Ohio. Advocacy initiatives for the Ohio Council are set by the Ohio Council. Click here to view Ohio's public policy priorities for 2009, as determined by the council, which is made up of the seven Alzheimer’s Association Ohio Chapters and volunteers. The purpose of the Council is to speak with one voice on advocacy issues facing Ohio families dealing with the challenge of Alzheimer’s disease. If you would be interested in learning more about the Ohio Council or Ohio advocacy opportunities contact Wendy Hamilton in our Mid-Ohio Valley office at 1.800.491.2717 or wendy.hamilton@alz.org.
