Little Owl

Little owl (Athene noctua) is a small size Strigiformes raptor with a body length about 23cm. It has no ear tuft with bright yellow. Athene noctua is one of the most frequently seen raptors in Beijing area. They are distributed both in suburb and urban area of Beijing as resident birds here. They mainly take rats and insects as their food. The reproduction period is 5-7 months and they lay 2-8 eggs every time, and some of them are quite energetic during daytime. They look stout and curious, usually nervously nodding or turning. Sometimes they stand on their long legs, and quickly flap their wings to fly like waves. They usually stand on fences and electrical wires. Besides, they are able to hover. More than 20 Athene noctuas are rescued by Beijing Raptor Rescue Center every year.
