Oriental Scops Owl

Oriental Scops Owl (Otus sunia) is a small size Strigiformes raptor with a body length about 19cm and weight about 70g. It is the smallest night owl in North China. They are distributed in suburb and outskirts of counties of Beijing as summer migrants in Beijing area. Their reproduction takes 5-8 months and they lay 3-6 egg every time. They would like to build their nests in tree holes and take insects, small rats and amphibian reptiles as food. The Scops Owls rescued by Beijing Raptor Rescue Centre are more than 50 every year. Some are wounded or feeble ones during migration and some are little birds falling from nests during the reproduction period.
