Common Kestrel
Common kestrel (Falco Tinnunculus) is a bird of prey belonging to the falcon family Falconidae. The kestrels generally grow about 33cm tall, and is one of the most common seen raptors in Beijing area. The kestrels are found in a wide variety of habitats, from suburbs to urban area of Beijing. Their diet consists of Small mammals and birds, such as sparrows, rats and insects. They breed from April to July, mostly lay 3-5 eggs every nest and take advantage of nests of pied magpie for reproduction. IFAW BRRC takes more than 50 sick or injured Common kestrels every year, which considers as one of the most common rescued raptors.
