![]() About Us The Prince George’s Community Foundation (PGCF), a regional affiliate of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, was established in 1994 to enhance the quality of life for residents of Prince George’s County, MD by building and sustaining philanthropic and human capital. The Foundation serves as a resource for individuals, families, businesses and others who want to use the “power of philanthropy and giving” to help ensure a bright future for residents of the County. The Foundation also serves as an advocate and supporter of the County’s nonprofit organizations helping to connect them to community resources. At the end of FY09, PGCF and its community of donors awarded over $2 million in grants to local nonprofits. In addition to its grantmaking role, the Foundation partners with local, regional and national foundations on initiatives designed to insure that the County’s nonprofits are sustained and remain effective. PGCF is guided by an all volunteer advisory board of local leaders who care about the County and are committed to its growth. As a regional affiliate of The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, our donors are part of a larger network of people who share a common goal: “To insure that the Washington metropolitan region thrives and continues as a healthy and vibrant place to live, work and play. The Foundation serves as a convener bringing community leaders, public officials, business and nonprofits to address many of our community’s most pressing needs and to recognize the critical role of the nonprofit sector in effective community building. Civic Leadership Award The Civic Leadership Awards were established to recognize, honor, and promote outstanding community leadership in Prince George’s County, MD. The Awards salute individual servant-leaders who enhance the quality of life in the County, working tirelessly and unselfishly behind the scenes and in the forefront. These community guardians steadfastly commit and dedicate themselves in service to Prince George’s County and its residents. An annual celebration event is held to recognize the valuable contributions of honorees and the County’s nonprofit sector. The Bridge Builders Award The Bridge Builders Award is presented to individuals who work “under the radar” to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors and community through their service and commitment. An award is made to a nonprofit organization of the honoree’s choice in recognition of their contribution to Prince George’s County. Awardees are engaged in several activities in the areas of civic engagement, education, economic and community development and social services. The Partnership for Prince George’s County Officially launched in 2008, the Partnership for Prince George’s County is a funding collaborative of local, regional and national foundations. The effort grew out of a series of community dialogues co-sponsored by The Prince George’s Community Foundation and the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers. Its purpose is to stimulate and increase philanthropic support of the County’s nonprofits by making targeted investments in their organizational capacity, sustainability and advocacy. |
