FAQ's

What is oral history?
Oral history is the collection and study of the past through audio recordings of interviews with people who have personal knowledge of a person, place, or event.

How can I access the oral history recordings?
To access the oral history recordings, you will need to log in using your Irish Online login name and password. If you do not have access to Irish Online, click here to register. You do not need to be an alumnus/a of Notre Dame to register for Irish Online. Students, parents and friends of the University can register too.

What are the interviews about?
The interviews cover a range of topics, and each one is different, depending on the individual. Some are mostly about memories of Notre Dame, while others are more focused on present-day activities, career, family, and other life events.

How can I participate?
Currently we are not conducting any more interviews for the Notre Dame Oral History Project. If you would like to be interviewed, please submit this form, and we will put you on our list for the future.

Why can’t I find all of the interviews on this site?
Interviews are added to the archive as they are transcribed, and we’re transcribing as fast as we can!

May I reproduce the recordings that are on this site?
