Take Action    Please stop Congress from passing harmful gang legislation that will increase life without parole penalties for youth, and have a severely negative impact on minority youth and communities.  Urge members of the United Nations Security Council to take concrete action to end the suffering in Darfur.  Ask your senator and representative to co-sponsor the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA), a major step in the effort to end violence against women and girls across the globe.  A growing consensus in the United States supports the closure of Guantanamo and both the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates have stated their intention to do so. However, that is going to take time, and in the meanwhile, roughly 255 men remain there, most of whom are being held in conditions that are unnecessarily harsh. Sign the petition urging the United Nations to call for an end to criminalizing people because of who they are or whom they love  Human Rights Watch and 20 other organizations issued an appeal to the government of Colombia to investigate the killing on March 6, 2009 of Alvaro Miguel Rivera, a human rights activist. |
