Letter from the President

From the President

To introduce myself, my name is Kevin McHugh ‘98, the incoming President of the Notre Dame Club of Atlanta. I am excited to take the reigns of such a dynamic club from Chris Kocks, the outgoing president who admirably served the club from 2004-2006 as the Vice President and 2006-2008 as the President. He left the club in a good position, and I thank him for his dedication to serving the Notre Dame community in the Atlanta area.

Also, I would like to welcome other new leaders to the Notre Dame Club of AtlantaPeggy Wood '88 and Lauren Taylor '04 will be co-Vice Presidents, succeeding myself in this position. Erin Buzzard ‘02 will be taking over from Doug Orsagh as the club’s Treasurer. Tai Romero '04 will be replacing Rose Carroll as the club's secretary.  I thank Chris, Doug and Rose for their dedication to the club, and hope that the incoming leadership can fill their shoes.

The club is pleased to offer many exciting events in the upcoming year. Bill Lewis, currently in the “Athletics Community Relations” department, but formerly an assistant Notre Dame Football coach, will be our guest speaker at the UND celebration on August 10th at noon at the Piedmont Room. We have combined this event with our annual Student Send-off, as we believe it is a great way to introduce the new students to the spirit of the Notre Dame community here in Atlanta. On October 20th, we will be hosting the 12th annual Peach State Golf Tournament at the Heritage Golf Club. This fundraiser has helped the Peach State Scholarship endowment to grow and now supports eight students from Georgia with financial assistance. Our football game watches will return once again to the Wing Factory throughout the fall 2008 football season. Add to these events our Young Alum happy hours, community service events, and others too numerous to mention here, you can see that our calendar will be full for 2008-09.  Check out the "Calendar of Events" on the left side of the page.

Lastly, we are endeavoring to get a Georgia license plate commemorating Notre Dame. In order to do this, we need to commit to 1000 plates to the State of Georgia. So far, we have over 250 committed. If you would be interested in getting an ND commemorative license plate, please sign-up under "Georgia License Plate Request", contact Scott Kriscovich at krisco@comcast.net, or call him (404) 345-2605.

If you have participated in any of these events or are considering getting involved, please think about "Joining the Club". Joining the club provides much needed funding to organize the events above plus support outstanding programs such as sending a teacher to the “Excellence in Teaching” conference at Notre Dame and hosting a student for the ND Summer Service Program. Benefits of club membership include discounts to club events, food and beverages at tailgate parties, and eligibility for football ticket auctions

Be sure to subscribe to the club's email newsletter via IrishOnline for the source for all events and information.

If you have any questions or suggestions about how the club can make a positive impact in our communities feel free to contact the club leadership. We are here to serve the Notre Dame community in Atlanta.

GO IRISH!!!!
