Camp Jayhawk and the YMCA's Camp Hammond are both equipped with storm shelters, weather alert radios, alert systems and in-camp communications devices. Camp staff members are trained in severe weather response procedures.
National BSA policies require that all councils prepare procedures for various emergencies, including severe weather situations. These policies are posted in each campsite, and both an emergency drill and a briefing are held within 24 hours of the arrival of new campers.
The Central Region of the BSA is currently working on a plan to assist the families affected by this tragedy. We will post updates on our website as new information is received.
