A Royal Performance
On October 22, 2007, the Choir of St. George's Chapel performed a special concert at Alexandria's historic Christ Episcopal Church to benefit the Alexandria Community Trust. The Choir, which sings regularly in the presence of the Queen and the Royal family, consists of 23 boy choristers and 12 Lay Clerks singing alto, tenor and bass has been in existence since 1348 at St. George's Chapel, located on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
More than 300 attended this one-time exclusive event in Alexandria. The internationally-known boys choir began the concert with Sir Charles Parry's "I was glad," a hymn sung at the Coronation of King Edward VII in 1902 and at every Coronation since. They also sang classical selections from composers such as Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms.
Following the concert was a special VIP dinner reception held at the home of Leslie and John Ariail, hosted by Major General Sir Michael Hobbs, Governor of the Military Knights of Windsor; Honorable Mark Warner, former Governor of Virginia; and Nigel Morris, co-founder of Capital One. Proceeds from the concert benefitted ACT's Community Fund for Alexandria.
