Metal Toxicology and Advanced Detoxification Strategies in Clinical Practice
San Diego, CA
April 29-30, 2009
Heavy metal exposure and toxicity is a major influence on health and longevity, but physicians and other health professionals are rarely educated in this area. They are often unaware of the latest scientific findings on toxic metal pollution and exposure and are therefore poorly prepared to advise their patients about sources of exposure and methods of detoxification for optimal well being; or using diet and lifestyle modification as a treatment strategy in the management of heavy metal toxicity.
Why you should attend
Your patients are increasingly being exposed to toxic metals that are adversely affecting their health. The Centers for Disease Control and the popular press have been reporting on high levels of lead in children’s toys and cosmetics, high levels of mercury in fish, and high levels of cadmium and arsenic from industrial waste and even in certain herbal supplements. Properly identifying and treating patients with heavy metal exposure is fundamental to good health, yet many practitioners lack the basic expertise in Heavy Metal Toxicology to recommend treatment strategies to their patients.
To meet this growing need, this course will provide you with essential information on:
· Practical strategies for incorporating heavy metal detoxification into your practice
· Tools to evaluate Heavy Metal exposure and toxicity
· Recommendations on how to diagnose and treat patients with heavy metal toxicity
· Using diet and nutrition to optimize detoxification pathways
· Medical and political aspects of heavy metal exposure on health
Who Should Attend
The conference is designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, naturopaths, and other professionals who make heavy metal toxicology recommendations as part of their professional practices.
The conference provides an overview and practical summary of the latest information on metal toxicology presented by leaders in scientific research and clinicians skilled in heavy metal detoxification.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this course, you will be able to:
- Review and discuss the history of heavy metal toxicity.
- Identify sources of exposures of common heavy metals known to adversely affect health; e.g., arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.
- Delineate the absorption, tissue distribution, excretion and ultimate toxicity of arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.
- Recognize the signs and symptoms or arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury toxicity.
- Utilize a Symptoms Survey to identify patients in need of evaluation for metal toxicity.
- Compare and contrast chelating agents, including efficacy, side effect profiles, and cost.
- Delineate appropriate diagnostic work-ups for suspected cases of metal toxicity.
- Discuss treatment options for metal toxicity, including indications and contraindications for chelation therapy.
- Describe nutritional and supportive therapies to ease common side effects of the various chelation agents.
- Discuss reimbursement issues surrounding chelation therapy for metal toxicity.

Lab Assessment Panel Workshop - How to interpret and utilize laboratory results to benefit your patient
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Conventional medicine does not clearly identify parameters for performing nutritional analysis in our patients. Consequently, assessing vitamin and mineral deficiencies in patients can be ineffective without proper testing and interpretation of lab results. ACAM’s Lab Panel Assessment: How to interpret and utilize laboratory results to benefit your patient workshop will address this issue with a one-day comprehensive workshop in San Diego. Integrative Medicine–specific laboratories offer unique diagnostic tests to address nutritional deficiencies on a cellular-level, allowing you as a physician to make informed and comprehensive recommendations and implement effective treatment plans. This workshop will also show you how to measure the effectiveness of your treatment plans utilizing various lab tests from IM-specific laboratories.
Digestive-stool analysis, proper testing and diagnosis for lyme disease as well as measuring as well as measuring functional nutritional status and efficacy of nutritional supplementation will also be addressed will also be addressed.
Many of us are currently limited in our ability to accurately test and treat Lyme Disease with conventional laboratories. Learn about the intricacies of Lyme disease testing as well as best methods for identifying the majority of tick borne pathogens.

Energy Medicine – The Next Frontier in Integrative Medicine
Thursday, April 30, 2009
Many patients present with a variety of chronic symptoms such as fatigue, migraine, insomnia and pain, yet have normal laboratory exams. These people often suffer from an imbalance – which can be assessed and treated with Energetic Medicine. Integrating energetic medicine into a functional medicine practice, allows the practitioner to take the patient to a deeper level of healing. ACAM is committed to giving its membership the most innovative and cutting edge information in Integrative Medicine.
Learning Objectives:
-
Participants will acquire a knowledge of the Homotoxicology Model, as well as drainage, detoxification and immune modulation strategies using German Energy Medicines
-
Participants will acquire valuable clinical experience applying German Energy Medicines in their practice.
- Workshop participants will acquire a background in physics and biophysics, leading to an energetic model of oxidative stress.
- Diagnostic tests in the field of Energy Medicine will be demonstrated.
- Participants will understand how to integrate homeopathic, energetic and nutraceutical medicine in order to augment cellular detoxification.
- Participants will be able to incorporate the synergistic effects of electromagnetic fields and anti-oxidants, and will be shown cases where energy field therapy is the treatment of choice.
- Epigenetics will be presented, as to how emotional, mental, and spiritual states influence genes, especially those regulating the immune system.
- Therapeutic Energy Medicine Technologies, such as low level laser therapy and microcurrents, will demonstrated, and their use in treating acute injuries and maintaining peak performance will be discussed.
- Technology will be presented, as a way to identify a patient’s electromagnetic imbalances and restore equilibrium, without the need to identify particular diseases.
- An interactive session with the workshop faculty with allow the participants to develop their skills in Energy Medicine.
