Village Banking Campaign

FINCA stands for the Foundation for International Community Assistance. Established in 1984, FINCA is best known for having pioneered the "Village Banking method" -- one of the major forms of microcredit -- and for leadership in microfinance overall.

The mission of FINCA International is to provide financial services to the world's lowest-income entrepreneurs so they can create jobs build assets and improve their standard of living.

Our vision is to be a global network collectively serving more poor entrepreneurs than any other microfinance institution, while operating on commercial principles of performance and sustainability. FINCA targets the poorest of the working poor: those who have the least access to services such as loans, savings programs, and insurance. Our clients include women, who make up 70 percent of the world's poor; individuals unable to find work in the formal sector; families displaced by war and internal conflict; the rural poor; and those affected by chronic poverty. With more than 20 years' experience and over 725,000 clients on four continents, FINCA offers a proven solution to poverty.

TO CHANGE THE WORLD, START HERE

Half the world's citizens (three billion people) struggle to live on less than $2 a day. This affects their nutrition, health, and their ability to send their children to school. It also affects the social and political stability of our planet. Women, many raising children alone, make up 70 percent of the world's poorest.

You can change that.

FINCA's Village Banking Campaign

At the beginning of the new century, the nations of the world agreed to work toward eight Millennium Development Goals that would eliminate extreme poverty and hunger by 2015. FINCA takes that challenge seriously. So we launched the Village Banking Campaign to:
  • Create 100,000 Village Banks in the world's most destitute neighborhoods
  • Reach one million of the world's working poor with loans and financial services they couldn't otherwise obtain
  • Open Village Banking programs in countries where FINCA's services are needed most
  • Inspire thousands of people like you to join us in promoting a proven and effective solution to poverty.

You can take a leadership position in FINCA's Village Banking Campaign as a Village Bank Sponsor through Friends Asking Friends for FINCA. Join the global movement to end poverty by starting your own campaign - with your friends, family, and community - using the Friends Asking Friends for FINCA (FAFF) tool to sponsor a Village Bank, providing micro entrepreneurs with loans to create jobs, build assets and improve their standard of living.

By using the specially-designed FAFF tool, you can engage your network across the country and around the world, inviting participants to jointly sponsor a Village Bank, and then track the fundraising progress together. Once the FAFF group reaches its goal of funding one Village Banking group, you'll receive a report about the group, complete with a photograph of the members, information on their business types and loan amounts, and a client story that can be shared with all.

FAFF gives you the opportunity to take a leadership position in FINCA's unprecedented social action campaign to end global poverty one loan, one woman, and one group of committed individuals at a time. Simply call Jennifer Schmidt at  (202) 682-1510  to learn more about the program and set up your campaign.
