The Challenge:
Dynamically display content in a variety of ways and in multiple places on the public facing Web site, while allowing CMS content creators to efficiently create new content and edit existing content with no HTML/CSS/JS coding knowledge or experience.
The CMS Solution:
Kintera devised a solution using their CMS and AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology to meet the client requirements. The following steps outline the details:
Step 1: UMCom/GBOD defined & designed the Web pages and various ways on each page they needed their content to populate and display on their public Web site.
Step 2: Kintera and UMCom/GBOD worked through functional requirements of how the content was to be managed and pushed live on the public Web site.
Step 3: Set up CMS tools
- Segmentation structure
- Content folders for content organization
- Content listings (Inline & Normal) for content delivery
- RSS/XML feeds
Step 4: Based on the functional requirements Kintera finally would begin the Custom coding process. This final step included development of:
- JavaScript
- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
The use of these technologies allowed us to dynamically read in the Kintera CMS generated XML (Content feeds), use client side javascripting to store and manipulate the data and finally display on the front end Web site using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
