REST API

Designed to provide access to a set of data via an easy-to-use method, Sphere’s REST (Representational State Transfer) API enables developers to quickly and easily build tools that will complement an organization’s online fundraising efforts.

REST is a common API language used to explain how resources within an application are defined.  Simpler in nature than the SOAP-based API, the REST API enables the transmission of domain data, whereas the SOAP-based API allows for the exchange of data.  Using the REST API, developers and applications are able to retrieve information about known records, but cannot exchange information.

Developers can use the coding language of their choice to build tools that fundraisers can use on social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.  Some examples of current REST API tools include the following:

  • Thon Thermometer
  • Honor Roll
