Tackling hunger and its root causes has been central to Concern's work since it was founded in 1968 in response to the devastating famine in Biafra. Over the past four decades, Concern has responded to famines and major food crises in Bangladesh in the 1970s, in Ethiopia in the 1980s, in Somalia and Sudan in the 1990s, and more recently in Somalia, Kenya, Niger, North Korea, Southern Africa and Ethiopia. Concern is committed to reaching the poorest and most vulnerable, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Our aim is to help people living in absolute poverty achieve major improvements in their lives-improvements they can sustain without ongoing support from Concern.
