Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, will go tobacco-free!
By November 20, 2008, the date of the Great American Smokeout, the naval base in Portsmouth will be virtually tobacco-free. The Center will join the majority of healthcare facilities in the Tidewater area as this new policy comes to fruition. Additionally, once the Navy Exchange sells its existing stock, tobacco products will no longer be sold on base. The hospital also plans to increase the number of tobacco cessation classes for military and civilian employees and to provide prescription medications free of charge for employees and patients trying to quit the habit.

Perhaps other bases will follow suit once this medical facility experiences success. To read more about the NMCP, follow this link, Smoke-Free Navy.
