Petition to Mexican President Felipe Calderón

Read the letter below and sign the petition to help end the killings of women and girls in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua.

Dear Mr. President Felipe Calderón:

Over 400 women and girls have been brutally killed in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico since 1993. Some of the victims were employees of the maquiladora industry and disappeared on their way to or from work.

Local investigations into the killings have been sloppy and fraught with problems. Despite federal review of cases identifying over 170 officials possibly responsible for negligence in past cases, none of these officials have been held to account.

Given the severity of this situation we urge you to:

  • Act quickly to put an end to these killings by ensuring that local authorities complete all investigations and bring those responsible to justice.
  • Demand that multinational companies provide improved security for workers by offering gender empowerment education in the workplace, funding street paving, lighting and protective accompaniment for workers on their route to and from home.

As the new president of Mexico, we urge you to make a difference and  respond forcefully to ensure effective action is taken to once and for all end the killings of women and girls in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua and bring those responsible to justice.
