What is Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis?

  • Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (better known as IPF) is a form of pulmonary fibrosis with no known cause.  IPF involves the progressive scarring of lung tissue that blocks the ability to breathe.  IPF affects over 300,000 patients in the United States alone and more than five million patients worldwide.  IPF is very difficult to diagnose and is often missed for months or sometimes years before being recognized.

What is Quest for Breath?

  • Quest for Breath is an organization created to raise awareness and dollars to support the Martin Edward Galvin Research Fund for IPF in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan.
