Privacy Policy

Welcome to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (“IFAW”) myanimalisland.org website (the “Site”). IFAW believes in the power of kids and we urge both kids and their parents to use and enjoy the Site. While we encourage the interactive nature of online media, we encourage parents and kids to learn how to safeguard their privacy when traveling on the World Wide Web. Use of this Site is conditioned on your having accepted these terms. You should check back to this policy frequently, since it is subject to change from time to time, and your continued use of the Site is conditioned upon your acceptance of any modifications hereto.

Collection and Storage of Information for Children Under 13

IFAW is committed to complying fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (“COPPA”). We may collect and store personal information about kids under 13 if it is submitted to our Site with the parent's verifiable consent, in adherence with COPPA. To determine who is younger than 13 years old and whether parental consent is required, we may ask users to submit their date of birth.

Those users that indicate they are under 13 years of age must submit a parent’s e-mail address, and we will contact the parent for consent. If given permission from a parent, we may collect and store the following types of personal information about a child under 13: name, email address, mailing address, parent's or guardian's name, and parent's or guardian's email address. We do not gather personal information about a child through the use of passive collection mechanisms such as cookies. For more information on how we use cookies and other information collection tools, please see our section on cookies (provided below).

The information that a child provides us may be used to: (a) allow the child to participate in activities on our site (e.g., contests); and, (b) allow us to send the child promotional materials, including information about contests, features and enhancements, special offers, and other events of interest. We may also use the information for our internal marketing and demographic studies, so that we can constantly improve the products and services we provide our visitors and to better meet their needs.

Please note that we will not condition a child's participation in an activity, such as contests, on the child's disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in the activity.

A parent who has already given us permission to collect and use his or her child's personal information can, at any time, do the following: review, correct, or have deleted the child's personal information; and/or, discontinue further collection and use of the child's personal information. To do so, please contact us at the address below and be sure to include your child's name and email address, and your name and email address.

We urge kids to check with their parents before entering information on any website and we urge parents to discuss with their kids restrictions regarding the online release of personal information to anyone they don't know.

To make sure that MyAnimalIsland.org stays safe and fun:

Almost all the information IFAW collects on this site is non-personal (such as screen name, age, city and state). The author of any content submitted to IFAW through MyAnimalIsland.org that appears on the site will be identified only by first name, age, city and state.

If you send us an e-mail with a question or comment, or enter one of our contests, we will write back using your e-mail address, but we will not keep the address or use it again.

When you create a username and password on MyAnimalIsland you will have to first complete a registration form. During registration you are required to give your contact information (such as name and e-mail address). This information is used to contact you about activities related to your personal space on the website. When prompted to create a username, we recommend you use non-personally identifiable information.

No one will be excluded from our Site for not giving us personal information. When we do ask for personal information (like an e-mail address), we will only keep it until that particular activity is complete. We will not share this information with a third party.

MyAnimalIsland.org provides kids the opportunity to send electronic messages to each other through the site. We may ask for a first name, but we do not require kids to submit personally identifiable information about themselves in order to send messages to each other.

IFAW currently does not disclose to third parties personally identifiable information that kids provide, except from time to time, we may transfer, disclose or share such information with third parties who may be engaged by us specifically to handle and deliver certain online activities (e.g. conducting contests and sweepstakes). Such third parties have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. We may also disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with law or requests by law enforcement agencies, to enforce our Terms and Conditions or to protect the rights, property or safety of the Site, users of the Site, and others, or as part of a sale or other disposition of our assets (including our customer records).

A cookie will tell us which pages you visit and the amount of time between each page visit.
