About the Alumni Association

Who is a member of the Alumni Association?

If you earned a degree from the University of Chicago, you are a member for life—no dues to pay and no need to do anything more than keep your address information current. If you took courses toward a degree at the University but did not graduate, you can enjoy the benefits of the Alumni Association—invitations to regional events, five-year reunions, the University of Chicago Magazine, study trips, volunteer opportunities, and much more—by filing for status as an "EX."

How can I get in touch with another University alumna/us?

Search the the Alumni Directory to find your friends. You can also call the Alumni Association to get the information. The Alumni Association will not release information to non-alumni, but they will forward letters sent to the person in care of the Association.

I've moved. How do I let the University know my new address?

Simply update your contact information in your profile in the Online Community. You can also write, phone, fax, or e-mail in your change of address to the Alumni Association. Updates to your information may take up to two weeks to be reflected in University records.

How do I get my transcript sent?

Call the Registrar at 773.702.7881 or fax your request to 773.702.3562.

I need help finding contact information for a University department or service.

Most of the phone numbers you will need can be found at the University's directory; however, if you can't find a number, feel free to call the Alumni Association (800.955.0065). If we don't have the answer, we'll be glad to track it down for you.

About the Online Community

What's a CNetID?

A CNetID is a user name used to connect University alumni to common NSIT services (Webmail, Proxy server, Thunderbird) and many non-NSIT sites such as the Alumni and Friends Online Community. If you have an e-mail address, your CNetID is the prefix to the ampersand in the address. If you have not yet done so, you may claim your CNetID here.

I'm a University employee and my CNetID won't allow me access.

At this time, only alumni with CNetIDs can gain access to the community via the CNetID system. Unless you are both a University employee and an alumni, you will need to register as a Family and Friends member.

Once I've signed in, how long will I stay signed in?

The sign-in experience for the Online Community is "sticky", meaning that you will remain signed-in for a duration of eight hours. Accessing password-protected areas of the community during this period may periodically redirect you to the sign-in page, necessitating only that you click the Alumni sign-in button and you will be automatically redirected to your destination.

IMPORTANT NOTE: to fully terminate your Online Community session you are required to CLOSE THE BROWSER you used to view the site. If you fail to fully close out of your browser, other individuals using that browser will continue to have access to your logged in session until the 8-hour sign-in session has expired.

Can anyone access the Alumni Directory?

No. Currently, only alumni with CNetIDs can access the directory.
