Often the only place a woman has to go when leaving treatment for alcohol and other drug addictions is back to what fueled their addiction. Unduplicated in Western Wisconsin, the YWCA La Crosse Ruth House provides homeless women emergency shelter as they continue or complete treatment, continue the healing process and work toward self-sufficiency. We understand that substance abuse often damages the entire person and strips them of their basic needs, including employment, income, food and housing. That is why our program not only provides women with basic needs, such as safe housing, but also with resources that can begin to heal the physical, mental and emotional and social changes caused by addictions. Through life skills education, case management, community resources and a supportive social network, women have a greater chance of living a long-term, self-sufficient and sober life.

YWCA La Crosse's Ruth House is a strength-based healing home for single, homeless women transitioning into a chemical/drug free life during/after treatment for chemical dependency issues. These women meet weekly with a case manager to learn and reinforce the life skills necessary for successful chemical/drug free living in a safe environment that is dedicated to restoring hope through goal directed living and learning. Gainful employment and participation in a treatment plan, after care plan or other community support is expected. The primary focus is to obtain employment and to secure decent, affordable housing while maintaining their sobriety.

Thank you to WXOW for producing a wonderful piece that tells more about the impact and women of Ruth House.
