COPD sufferers should exercise, avoid cigarette smoke and eat healthy.

If you've been active, but now suffer from a major illness, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), it's difficult without a strong support system. Not only is it hard on the patient; but it also takes a toll on the patient's family.
"Becoming active in a Better Breathers Club enlarged the circle of support," says Cindy Witt of Bartholomew County. "The unity and closeness of people sharing a common tie is amazing."
The American Lung Association of Indiana provides Better Breathers Clubs, support groups which meet monthly to focus on lung health advances and share ideas. There's also a yearly conference to help those with COPD. Call 800-LUNG USA or click here for a club location near you.
