Things to Think About

  • You’ll need a DogFest Chairperson—a volunteer leader who can inspire and manage other volunteers, and lead the overall effort.
  • Who can you recruit to be on your DogFest Committee? There are about a dozen key positions, plus additional sub-committee roles. The event is designed so that many hands will make light work!
  • Think about a venue. Where would you hold a DogFest in your town? Ideas on venues include a high visibility area that is disability accessible, dog friendly, physically attractive and good leisure walking paths of variable lengths.
  • Think about a date for your event. A good rule of thumb is six to nine months from brainstorm to the big day.

The DogFest Vision | DogFest Standards | Who’s Throwing this Party? | Here's how it all fits together!
DogFest is a volunteer-driven, staff-supported event to benefit Canine Companions for Independence. The DogFest Chairperson recruits a committee of volunteers to orchestrate the event. They recruit the teams, market the event and ensure the standards are upheld for this national signature event. This overview is designed to provide you with a snapshot of DogFest and what it takes to make it happen. Your staff partner will be your DogFest resource, coach and cheerleader throughout the planning process.
