THE CHRONICLE OF AMERICAN WOMEN

WOMEN'S STORIES: HISTORY IN THE MAKING

Welcome to the National Women's History Museum's tribute site, The Chronicle of American Women.  This site was created to honor the lives and legacies of women, living and dead, those whose individual and collective contributions have enriched our lives.

There are no insignificant stories.  Women have been building homes and communities throughout our history.  Women have played important roles in every area of human endeavor:  education, commerce, science, government, entertainment, art.  Too often these accomplishments are overlooked or have been obscured.  To reveal this history researchers have resorted to letters, diaries, and family histories--sources that are disappearing in an electronic age.

The Chronicle of American Women seeks to preserve this vital information for current and future generations.  It is a way for friends and supporters of the Museum to help us to record their own stories and the stories of those who have done so much to shape our world today.

Who is that special woman, or women, who has made a difference in your life?

This is your chance to honor your mother, your grandmother, your sister, your aunt, a daughter, a teacher, or perhaps even a co-worker.  Or maybe you have a relative in the distant past whose stories have been passed down that you want to share.

Take this opportunity to record the stories of those women who have shaped your life, the lives of your family, and the life of your community.   Many of these women influenced those around them behind the scenes.  Without your help those stories will be lost forever.

This site allows you to create a moving tribute to that special woman.  You can write as little or as much as you like.  You can add photographs.  You can return again and again to revise and add information as it becomes available.

Just  click here to get started,  click here for instructions,  click here if you already have a login name and password, or  click here if you'd like to make a donation to the National Women's History Museum.  Once you are registered, you can use your login information to control who can add information to the Chronicle that you create.

Once your Chronicle page has been created, you will have an opportunity to send an eCard and/or an email to your friends, family, or even to the honoree herself to invite them to view the site.  As others add their own memories and comments, your Chronicle will grow into a lasting memorial to that special woman!
