State Bar of California Admits 61 California Western Graduates This Week
New attorneys vow to conduct their legal careers with honor and integrity

SAN DIEGO, June 6, 2013 - The State Bar of California admitted 61 California Western School of Law graduates yesterday at its biannual swearing-in ceremony held at the Sheraton Harbor Island. More than 30 alumni attended the Oath of Professional Conduct breakfast reception prior to the State Bar ceremony.

For the February 2013 Bar Exam, California Western graduates again surpassed the statewide average for ABA-approved schools with 63.9% of first-time takers passing. California Western alumni have met or surpassed the statewide average for ABA-approved law schools on 10 of the past 11 examinations.

"At California Western, the consistent success of our graduates is a source of great pride, and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations on reaching this important career milestone," said President and Dean Niels B. Schaumann. "I am confident that the education, experience, and unique perspective that prepares our graduates for the Bar Exam seamlessly transitions them into careers as practicing members of the Bar."

Oath of Professional Conduct
The Oath of Professional Conduct, a unique event among law schools, is taken by California Western graduates as a vow to conduct themselves and their legal careers with integrity and a high degree of professional responsibility. Through the Oath, California Western demonstrates its commitment to educating principled advocates with the skills and perspective to make a lasting impact in their communities. The Hon. Anthony J. Battaglia '74, Larrie R. Brainard '68, Kevin R. O'Neil, JAGC, USN '05, Michael B. Orfield '77 and James F. Stiven (Ret.) administered the Oath.

Distinguished Speakers
Speakers addressing the graduates and their families included Dean Niels B. Schaumann, Trustee Chair Kenneth L. Greenman '71, Alumni Association Board President Christopher M. Lawson '05, San Diego County Bar Association President Marcella O. McLaughlin '98, and Associate Deans Laura M. Padilla and William J. Aceves.
