Law School Honors Former Professor and Trustee Murray Galinson with Food Drive
More than 140 pounds of food donated to San Diego Food Bank

SAN DIEGO, January 14, 2013 - California Western School of Law today donated more than 140 pounds of non-perishable food items to the San Diego Food Bank in honor of longtime professor and trustee Murray Galinson, who passed away unexpectedly last week.

“Murray’s spirit of community engagement and philanthropy lives on through those of us who continue his work,” said President and Dean Niels B. Schaumann. “Many lives were touched by Murray’s contributions to the community. We hope these food items offer comfort and support to local families in need.”

Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank President & CEO James Floros said, “We are very grateful to the students, faculty and administration at California Western School of Law for supporting the Food Bank through a food drive honoring Murray Galinson.”

“With demand continuing to soar, food drive donations will be critical to the Food Bank this year since we are currently feeding more people than ever before in the Food Bank’s 36-year history,” Floros said. “Every can of food donated will prevent a San Diegan from going to bed hungry. On behalf of the Food Bank’s staff and family of volunteers, we thank California Western School of Law for honoring Murray Galinson and following his spirit of philanthropy by giving back to the community and helping San Diegans in need.”

Student scholarship named in honor of Galinson
Galinson served as a professor of law in the 1970s and 80s, and was a trustee of the law school until his death. To recognize his many contributions to the law school and the community, California Western flew its school flag at half-staff last week.

Galinson’s commitment to the community and to legal education will live on through a new scholarship assisting incoming students who have overcome significant obstacles. For more information, contact Director of Development and Alumni Relations Lori Boyle at lboyle@cwsl.edu.
