Happy Holidays! The holiday season is here- time to start watching holiday films, drink hot chocolate by the fire, and enjoy time with friends and family. Host a cookie-baking party with some of your friends, or plan a massive snowball fight.

The holiday season is also a time to give thanks for what you have and help others have a great holiday season too. Donate your time and help out at your local homeless shelter, or collect canned goods for your local food bank. Giving back to others is a great natural high.

Quidditch World Cup Update!

In the October issue, we mentioned that the 3^rd annual Quidditch World Cup was being held on October 25^th at Middlebury College. Teams played on four fields, with hundreds of people watching and thousands watching online. Boston University came in third place, Emerson College placed second, and Middlebury College won the tournament!

How do you stay away from drugs and alcohol in the excess down time that comes with the winter break?

"I stay busy! I focus on doing things that make me happy and I enjoy doing. The holidays in general are a natural high for me because everyone is always happy. I take the time to do things that I've been meaning to do for a while but haven't gotten around to, such as reading a special book. Focusing on yourself and what makes you happy is the easiest way to resist drugs and alcohol during the holiday break. You don't need substances or alcohol to have a good time during the holiday season, or any other time of the year. Instead, focus on your natural highs." - Anonymous Student Contributor

SADD: Students Against Destructive Decisions   

You most likely have heard of the organization MADD, but have you heard of SADD? SADD stands for Students Against Destructive Decisions, and is an organization dedicated to preventing underage drinking, drug use, driving while under the influence, and other destructive decisions. SADD chapters across the country are started by students and their peers who want to support each other against the pressures that they face every day. According to their website, "SADD encourages teens to consider the impact of their choices on their friends, their families and their future." A New Natural High: Ultimate

Ultimate is a sport also known as Ultimate Frisbee. But don't let the name fool you. Ultimate is much more competitive and intense than anything involving a Frisbee. In this sport, teams of seven play on a field similar to a football field. Players throw a disc (similar to a Frisbee) from one end of the field to the other. The object of the game is for a player to catch the disc in the other team's end zone. Players cannot run while they are holding the disc, but they can pivot and pass to other players. Possession of the disc is given to the other team when the disc is dropped, a pass is intercepted, the disc is thrown out of bounds, or a player hold the disc for more than ten seconds. Ultimate is a high-paced, athletic game that is sure to get your heart rate up!  You can find an Ultimate youth team near you here.
