Hey Dude,
Looking for an exhilarating natural high? Ever thought about martial arts? If not, this might just inspire you to do so. Coming up July 7th, is the North East Open, one of the largest and most anticipated tournaments in the martial arts world! This year the event will take place in Albany, New York, but features competitors and spectators from all over the country. Dozens of the regions highest ranking, most prestigious and most experienced martial arts masters and school owners have all come together to help make this event a huge success. Competition events include forms, weapons, sparring, self-defense, team demo, and breaking.
The event's goal is to open up competitors' eyes to the beauty and strength of all different styles of martial arts, rather than offering a competition with the attitude of "finding out who is best". Check out this video clip from last year"s tournament, pretty amazing what these competitors can do!

A New Natural High: Paddle Surfing!
Paddle surfing. The name itself sounds interesting enough. But what is it? Paddle surfing (or paddle boarding) is a Hawaiian sport that dates back to the '40s in Kauai. It supposedly originated when Waikiki surfers stood upright on their boards so they could photograph tourists. Unlike traditional surfing, stand-up paddle surfing doesn't require massive ocean waves. You can catch a wave, but you can also cruise along a river or lake. A stand-up paddle board is usually between nine and eleven feet long, accompanied by a paddle that is about six inches taller than your height. You don't have to live near a beach to try paddle surfing; places like Bend, Oregon (a major paddle surfing spot) are just as fun! Try looking around your area for lessons or to rent gear!

A Peer's Perspective on the Affects of Drugs
How do you see drugs affecting other areas of life amongst the teens at your school using? Academically? Socially? Love life? Work? Physically?
"Drugs definitely affect the lives of teens using. The kids that I know use drugs do not get very good grades. They have friends, but they mostly hang out with other users. The kids that don't do drugs prefer not to hang out with ones that do. As far as love life goes, one of my friends that does not do drugs had issues with her boyfriend because he was doing drugs, and she was really worried about him. It definitely got in the way of their relationship because she felt like she couldn't trust him. Physically, doing drugs is not very attractive either because it causes bad skin and teeth. I don't see any positives to doing drugs; I only see negatives."
