The Class of 2013 has been selected and we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for continuing to raise awareness about the University to high school guidance counselors, students and their parents in your community. Thank you also for calling U.Va.'s latest selection of top students. The calling script at http://uvaclubs.virginia.edu/congratcallscript will help you and your volunteers to frame your comments. Please remember to ask students for written permission if you would like to include their names in your next monthly e-newsletter. It might also help if you ask about their travel plans, so you may pick the date for your UVaClub's Student Send-off Party.
Now that congratulations have been made, it's time to look ahead at celebrating our new students as they prepare to head off to our alma mater. Clubs organize and host student send-off parties in the U.S. and abroad. Each club hosting a party will be reimbursed $15 per student, parent and club volunteer attending the event. Please register your event for the Class of 2013 at http://uvaclubs.virginia.edu/sso2009registration by May 15th in order to be included in the printed invitations, which will be sent to all incoming first-year families. Print invitations will be sent only to incoming students, as well as current students, if indicated on your send-off registration form. Alumni and friends will not receive the printed mailing, but can be invited through your monthly e-newsletter.
City Fair: Talking to Graduating Students about Your City City Fair is on schedule this year for April 24 (the Friday before Foxfield) and we're still looking for people to represent the following cities: Baltimore, Boston, L.A., Roanoke, San Francisco, Seattle and Denver. Over the next week we ask that you talk with your club leaders and constituents to find out who will be in Virginia for Foxfield weekend and would be willing to talk to graduating students considering moving to your city. Please contact your REO about people in your area who are willing to participate.

At State of the University events this spring in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Portland, the Office of Engagement piloted a new tactic for obtaining contact information to pass on to clubs. Rather than the traditional sign-in sheet, we placed contact cards under every nametag which attendees filled out and placed in a bowl at the UVaClubs' information tables, to be entered in a raffle. As a result, the three clubs have collectively obtained 79 e-mail addresses and 117 telephone numbers which they did not have before, and were able to confirm current contact information for hundreds more alumni and parents. This innovation is an important part of our overall effort to help clubs build their own databases, while making use of the University's central database for large mailings.
The Office of Engagement looks forward to working with you to make the Jefferson Book Awards one of the best book award programs in the nation. - Newly designed formal award certificate. |
