Interesting Natural High: Base Jumping Bonus

Dear Supporter,

Just wanted to take a minute to share an unsolicited testimonial we received recently from a teacher in Washington: "I have been a school counselor for 13 years, and this is the first time I have shown a video that captured every student?s attention for the duration of the video. It also captured the attention of the teachers, who had planned on getting paperwork done but couldn't take their eyes of the video! They had many, many compliments also. I'm never tired of watching the video, even though I watched it 28 times in 4 days."   -Steve Pitkin, Lake Stevens High School, WA

The Natural High DVD Series and great testimonials like the one above would not be possible without your sincere interest and generous contributions in finances and kind words. Thank you for continuing to support us in our goal to reach as many kids as possible with the Natural High message. For more of the latest Natural High testimonials, visit our website.

Best Wishes,

Sober by the Sea: Surfing Helps Maintain Healthy Lifestyle

It seems the waves of Southern California serve more than just a meditation ground for surfers. Those going through drug abuse and eating disorder recoveries are also sharing the water. Sober Living By The Sea, a drug rehabilitation center in Newport Beach, takes frequent visits to the shore with its clients to maintain a sober and healthy lifestyle. They have found long term success lies not only in counseling, but in encouraging social, cultural and spiritual integration. How can anyone deny the beauty of tranquility out in the water? Visit Sober Living to learn more.

Our Newest Addition: Christin Martin, Administrative Assistant

You can now put a face to that amazing voice that answers our phones! Christin Martin, a San Diego native, has formally joined SMF this past January while obtaining her AA degree at Grossmont College. She plans to continue her education at San Diego State in hopes of attaining her BA in English. Christin has gained non-profit experience while working for The San Diego Electrical Training Center. The Natural High message hits very close to home for her, because she has seen first hand through family and friends how drugs can destroy lives. Christin is a woman of strong faith and credits all her achievements and success to God. She enjoys movies, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Please help us welcome her to the team.

Voice in the Trenches on Michael Phelps

This month our student writer answered a question on a lot of our minds recently: What were your initial thoughts and feelings after hearing that Michael Phelps, an amazing athlete and Olympic gold medalist, was recently caught smoking marijuana?

"I personally was shocked when I heard that Michael Phelps was caught smoking marijuana. He was an amazing athlete in the Olympics; I never expected him to jeopardize his career in this way. Michael is a role model to many aspiring athletes and teenagers all over the world, and I feel that this incident will definitely have an effect on how people think of him. Michael's passion was swimming, but it wasn't his natural high. A passion is something someone enjoys doing, but a natural high is a passion you consciously choose to do over drugs. Many celebrities today are photographed doing drugs, partying, and drinking alcohol, but I believe they use it for publicity. If a teen is caught doing drugs, they can suffer even more life-altering consequences than celebrities like Michael. Michael getting busted for pot was a wake-up call for everyone. This incident showed everyone that while you may be able to get away with substance abuse for a little while, you still suffer the consequences, no matter who you are."                  -Anonymous Student Journalist

Interesting Natural High: Base Jumping Bonus

You won't believe your eyes when you watch the newest spin on base jumping! It is a jaw dropping  sight to watch professional jumpers use their combined talents from skiing, base jumping and flying in wingsuits to obtain this amazing natural high.

Please be advised this is only for experts. So far there are few sights found to host these athletic stunts, however in the locations known, jumpers can reach up to speeds of 120mph wearing their specially designed suits, or squirrel suits as they are referred to sometimes. The fabric wings of these suits allow jumpers much control over their flight, so when mastered, the end result is an adrenaline pumping sport (and spectator sport at that).

JT Holmes, as seen in the short video describes the feeling he gets from gliding only meters away from cliffs: I don't know about Superman, but we certainly felt superhuman when we were on our Norwegian adventure. It felt like we were the masters of the mountain at that very moment which was an incredible rush. For more information visit The Sun.

"Keep the videos coming. As a teacher, I learned that the video has a powerful message not only to students but to adults as well. Using these well known athletes and performers makes it that much more realistic to these teenagers. Teenagers love stars and like to listen to what they have to say, whether they are saying what is in to wear or to stay away from drugs. I just can't express how awesome this video is other than it is pretty much the complete package when it comes to drug prevention."                                                                                                                                   Joshua Martinez, Teacher, New Braunfels Middle School, TX
