Interesting Natural High: Modern Day Matchmaker

Dear Supporter,

It's that time again! Time to mark Saturday, October 17th in your calendars for SMF's annual gala! It's also time for us to ask: Are you interested in taking an active role this year helping us increase attendance, get media attention and secure sponsors and auction items? If so, email us at: info@sundtmemorial.org and we'll tell you about the upcoming house party we will be hosting for those who want to help out!

We have also added a new section to Natural High News called, "Voice in the Trenches, a Youth Perspective". This section is written from a student attending a typical high school in Southern California. Her Natural Highs are soccer, writing, and journalism so this a great opportunity for her to put her skills and passions towards good use! We will be asking our student to share her perspective on substance abuse, natural highs and the media every month so stay tuned to hear what her and her buddies have to say. The student has wished to remain anonymous however if you have a question you would like to ask her please send us an email!

Best Wishes,

Catchy Natural High Tunes

Check out these Natural High Songs created by two of our largest fans; Eva and Tony! They put their Natural Highs to creative use by spreading a powerful message through music. We encourage all youth (and adults!) to keep sending us your Natural Highs via essay, picture, video and song. Upon consent we will share these with the rest of our Natural High fans and encourage others to live drug free life!

Voice in the Trenches; a Youth Perspective

We asked our Student, what is the top thing adults should know about drug use amongst young people your age?

"The top thing adults should know about drug use amongst young people my age is that it is definitely out there. Parents don?t seem to realize how prevalent it is in our lives, and how common it has become. They need to be aware that drugs are a part of their child?s daily life. Adults need to know the wide range of drug use and abuse that exists today. In addition to drugs such as marijuana, kids are now taking prescription drugs and even smoking prescription drugs. Parents also need to know that their children face pressure to drink or do drugs and be ?cool.? By knowing what their child is facing, parents can help them make smart decisions in their life."

Marketing Intern and Volunteers Needed to Work in SMF Office

SMF has a position to fill! We are currently in need of a 2009 Marketing Intern and as always, we like to announce this opportunity to donor and friend circles before we post the ad to the general public. The 2009 Marketing Internship is unpaid; however it is a tremendous learning experience for those interested in the marketing industry or adding something concrete and beneficial to their resume. The position is part time with a minimum of 10-15 hours a week. Increase your skills in public relations, copy-writing/editing, relationship building, research and volunteer management. If interested please send us an email with your resume to info@sundtmemorial.org.

Interesting Natural High: Modern Day Matchmaker

"Match maker match maker, make me a match, find me a find, catch me a catch". Although not as popular as in the time period of 'fiddler on the roof', the art of match making is still alive with modern day matchmakers such as Samantha Daniels. For Samantha, her natural high happens to be her work, and who can blame her? Her job is to set people up for the happiest moments of their lives. She makes it very clear that her goal within the matchmaking service is not have her clients dating around, but to have them end up getting married. She has helped hundreds of individuals accomplish this and regularly receives notes of new babies being burn as a result of her expertise.

With competing online companies such as eharmony, match.com, and many others that still leave the actual initiation to the members, Samantha's strategy sticks to the traditional approach. To watch a clip and read more about her services click here

"I am an ATOD educator and prevention specialist for FCPS and work primarily with 26 different middle schools. I wanted to thank you and your organization for some of the media that you provide. I currently use "Natural High 3" at least once every week as part of a prevention based program/presentation. Thanks so much for all you do!" -Michael Jones, Fairfax County Public School, WA
