Natural High DVD Series

Dear Educator

We are pleased to inform you that production on Natural High 4 is currently on its way! Under the creative direction of veteran producers George Moll (executive producer to VH1's Behind the Music and more) and Martin Gillam, and their team at Beeline Productions, this next edition to the Natural High DVD Series is sure to make a remarkable impact on youth.

New to the mix, Natural High 4 is expected to be a collaboration of both star and youth talent. With hundreds of kids entering the "My Natural High" contest on www.naturalhigh.org the Sundt Memorial Foundation has been able to aggregate passionate kids who are eager to share their Natural High with the rest of the world. So far the DVD is on schedule for delivery in the 2008-2009 school year. Stay tuned for more details!

Natural High Assembly Hits Home

On March 19^th, Jon Sundt and Dennis Martinez teamed up to give a powerful assembly at Bishop's School in La Jolla California. Although Mr. Sundt can only do a few assemblies a year (mostly in san diego) he thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to share his story and the Natural High message within a local, intimate atmosphere. Dennis Martinez, a once renowned professional skate boarder, also considers it a blessing to speak to kids on the damaging affects of drugs and alcohol. The combination of this powerful duo and Natural High 3 hit home in the auditorium. Individual teachers and students were moved to actually stand up and voice their agreement with the presentation, solidifying the natural high message amongst their peers and classmates.

Natural High Social Networking

Due to the widespread popularity of social networking, the Sundt Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of a Natural High Myspace, YouTube and Facebook account. We encourage you to join yourselves to stay abreast on the dialogue and action that is occurring related to natural high, and/or send the links to the teens that you know. Right now on the youtube channel we are asking creative geniuses and directors to send us their best Natural High campaign for possible use in upcoming Natural High DVDs. Similar to the contests run on www.naturalhigh.org, just send us a clip of you participating in your natural high and why you choose that over drugs. We may even feature the video in an upcoming eblast!

Social Host Oridnances; What They Mean for Adults

 On March 30^th 2007, the City of Chula Vista in Southern California unanimously (5-0) voted to adopt a social host ordinance to address prom and graduation celebrations along with the ongoing house parties that occur in Chula Vista. The ordinance went into effect 30 days after the voting on 05/24/07. Social Host ordinances can vary from state to state and county to county, however the general idea is that this ordinance prohibits, and establishes penalties for, any person hosting an event or gathering where alcohol is present and being possessed or consumed by persons under twenty-one (21) years of age.

Should parents be held responsible for what minors are doing in their own homes? According to a recent report from the San Diego County Policy Panel on Youth Access to Alcohol, 57% of local high school students reported drinking at friend?s homes. As other cities are discovering similar alarming stats, new ordinances are being put in to affect across the county; watch this video on Ventura County. If you are concerned what your students are doing outside of the classroom, perhaps now is a good time to suggest a social host ordinance in your community.

University Adapts Natural High Club

Last month we told you about the Natural High Network started by a substance abuse prevention coordinator at a high school in Washington, this month we discovered a Natural High Club taking place at Missouri State University. Their motto is simple; ?We aren't here to preach to you. What you do on your own time is your business; however, all of our trips will be alcohol and drug free.? This is quite an active club that plans all sort of activities (especially in the outdoors), volunteering, or just having a good time. The activities vary month to month in terms of type and frequency, but if you look at their schedule, they have at least one unique activity planned each week, sometimes more! Skydiving is coming up April 26^th. This is too cool, check it out.

"I have shown Natural High 3 to 12 classrooms this year and the kids really love it.  Actually, I do too.  I am 60 years old so I grew up with the Beatles, Beachboys, Beegees, etc. not P.O.D. Or Switchfoot.  However, I really love the music and the message in this video, and every time I watch it, I enjoy it more. Keep the great videos coming.  They are such an interesting and effective way to convey to kids the dangers of using bad drugs."
