Papal Photo Journey at the National Shrine

Below you will find some of our favorite photos of the Holy Father's visit to the National Shrine.

Videos of the Pope's visit at the National Shrine are available through the USCCB.  You may find them here.

   Enjoy!

The Holy Father reenters the Crypt Church to the applause of the bishops.  He has removed the vestments worn for Evening Prayer, but retains a golden stole, a symbol of the office of preaching.  He is about to address the U.S. bishops.

Pope Benedict XVI speaks to the bishops.

As the Holy Father listens to a question asked by the bishops, the beautiful Papal Chair built specifically for this event can be seen clearly.

A laugh from the Holy Father during his meeting with the U.S. bishops.

Pope Benedict XVI rises to bestow his own gifts on the American people and to give a final blessing.

Pope Benedict XVI bestows a "Papal Rose" on the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  The Papal Rose, usually bestowed on shrines of special significance, is considered a great honor.  The Rose is now on display in Memorial Hall and can be viewed by visitors to the National Shrine.

The Holy Father departs from the National Shrine, waving once more to the crowds.
