What is the Challenge Walk MS?

photoThe Challenge Walk is a 3-day, 50-mile walk held on September 11-13, 2009. Starting in Carlsbad, California, approximately 350 Walkers enjoy ocean views while walking to downtown San Diego. The route is fully supported with rest stops, snacks, beverages, lunches and medical professionals. Walkers and Super Crew participants spend two nights at our host hotel, the Del Mar Marriott, and are treated banquet breakfasts and dinners. The event is expected to raise approximately $1.2 million to create a world free of MS. For more information on volunteering please contact Linda Ingram at (760) 448-8416 or

How does Challenge Walk MS happen?

photoThe Challenge Walk could not happen without the dedication and support of over 400 volunteers. These individuals bring energy and excitement to the event and assist with all types of tasks. From checking-in Walkers and assisting at rest stops, to driving support vehicles and decorating, there are numerous volunteer positions that will match your interests.

Many volunteers support a friend or family member who is walking. Others volunteer because someone close to them has MS. Some volunteers have no previous connection to MS or the Society and volunteer simply to "give back" to the community. All of these people are committed to making a difference.

Challenge Walk MS 2009 has three types of volunteer opportunities:

Extraordinary volunteer who works all three event days and fundraises $2,500 or more. Participate in all event festivities and enjoys all the same perks as Walkers including hotel accommodations for two nights and banquet meals. $65 Registration Fee.

Dedicated volunteer who works all three event days. Enjoy breakfast each morning at the host hotel and a banquet dinner and entertainment each evening. Discount rate on hotel accommodations are available.  Limited to 50 Crew positions. $65 Registration Fee.

Volunteer - (online volunteer registration is closed)
Spirited individual who volunteers for a 2-4 hour shift for one, two or all three days of the Challenge Walk. No Registration Fee. No banquet meals or discount accommodations available.
