Kyle Barels


Kyle Barels has been dancing for 13 years, beginning his career dancing and teaching ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop at the Center Stage Dance Studio. Since that time, he has attended numerous dance workshops and conferences around the nation to sharpen his dance and instructional skills. Kyle has been a professional instructor and competitor with Fred Astaire Dance Studios for 6 years and has been regionally and nationally recognized for his achievements in dance and dance instruction. Kyle enjoys giving back to the community, actively participating in local benefits such as Dancing with the Stars Chattanooga, Dare to Dance, Denim and Diamonds, and now, Dancing Stars of Dalton.


Amy Boy
Amy Anderson Boyd is the Co-Owner of The Ballroom at Hixson and has been competitively dancing for more than 5 years. She with her co-owner, Tammy Harrelson, is certified with the American Dancewheels, Ballroom dance for seated dancers, the only two within several states! She was a nationally ranked college cheerleader at UTC and a certified Aerobics Instructor for 25+ years! She is also a Sales Director with Mary Kay, for the past 23 years. Teaching at Southeast High School from ’87-’91, hosting “Kids Town” as “Miss Amy” on WDGA, local 43 in Dalton and “Fuzzy Company” on Chattanooga’s WTCI channel 45 - PBS, are just a few of her other outstanding teaching accomplishments! Amy brings teaching knowledge and creative abilities with a contagious smile and boundless energy to the dance floor!


Jessica Ferguson
Originally from New Orleans, Jessica Ferguson has been singing, dancing and performing all of her life, spending the last eight years focused on ballroom and Latin dance as an instructor, competitor and performer. Moving to Chattanooga, TN from the Memphis area almost 2 years ago, while working with the Fred Astaire Dance Studios franchise, she was inspired to strike out on her own as an independent instructor. Jessica has a strong belief that anyone and everyone can learn to dance. With a strong focus on the student’sfundamentals of good dancingand healthyFUN, she is specially trained to work withnew studentsandcouples. Are you looking for a great teacher who has a true passion for her students?...YOU should be Dancing with Jessica Ferguson!


Tammy Harrelson
Tammy Harrelson is the Co-Owner of The Ballroom at Hixson, which opened December 15th, 2012! She has been involved with dance for over 20 years. She started out in country western and was on Club Dance, a television show on TNN. After sustaining a major injury in Tae Kwon Do, where she was a Certified Instructor with the ITA, she entered the ballroom dance world and has never looked back. She now teaches smooth, latin, country western and does showcases, competitions and wedding choreography. Tammy and her Co-Owner, Amy Boyd, were recently certified with American Dancewheels, in wheelchair ballroom.....ballroom dance for seated dancers....the only two certified within several states!


Natalie Honkonen


Natalie is a Chattanooga native and a 2004 graduate of Chattanooga Center for the Creative Arts (CCA). She has a passion for and has studied several forms of dance such as Ballroom, Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tap. While at CCA, Natalie performed as a principle dancer in major musical theater productions at the Tivoli including “The Wiz,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat,” and “Bye Bye Birdie.” She also earned several leading dance roles with CCA's dance program, was voted number one choreographer in her class, and was awarded the Dance Award for her senior year.

After graduating from CCA, Natalie went on to study Choreography at Columbia College Chicago. Upon returning to Chattanooga, she has performed in several events around Chattanooga such as The Grand River Front Opening, MainX24, Riverbend, Four Bridges, and with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra. Natalie has also returned to choreograph pieces for CCA, Baylor, Chattanooga Christian School (CCS), and a musical theater production of “Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella.”

Last year Natalie became a Professional Ballroom dancer, competing on a professional level at prestigious competitions all over the country. She is currently involved with the Ballroom Club at CCS as well as building a dance program for their new Fine Arts Center where she teaches modern and ballet.

Natalie has become involved with Chattanooga charity events as well as The Alzheimer's Assoc., and is thrilled to be given so many opportunities to share her love of dance for a good cause.




Casey Haywood


Casey Haywood started with Fred Astaire Dance Studios in 2009. He came into the studio in Chattanooga, Tennessee with some previous experience with Latin dances in college. He has competed in several regional Fred Astaire competitions, and loves working on his dancing to get ready for competing. Casey is now co-owner of Fred Astaire Chattanooga, and is very pleased to represent his studio in Dancing Stars of Dalton. He is proud to support the Alzheimer's Association and have fun doing it!


Denny Lennon

Denny has been a professional ballroom dance teacher for over 21 years. Mr. Lennon is certified to teach Bronze, Silver, Gold and Open Gold levels in all styles of American Smooth and Rhythm, International Standard and Latin as well as Theater Arts. In addition he holds certification from the U.S Terpsichore Association as a judge and ballroom dance coach. His many achievements include dozens of regional and national championships including 1991 Rising Star American Rhythm champion, 1997 National Pro/Am champion, 2009 Junior Pro/Am Champion at Ohio Star Ball and 2011 Junior Pro/Am finalist at USDC in Orlando Fla.


Daniel Lineberger
Daniel R. Lineberger began dancing at the age of 3, when his Mother forced him into Ballet class. After quickly finding his passion for dance, he became obsessed. Before the age of 25 Mr. Lineberger became a Featured Danseur – dancing such roles asCavalierin The Nutcracker,Von Rothbartin Swan Lake, andJoseph (Soldat)in L’Histoire du Soldat. Having paid his dues in the classical world, Daniel then turned to his true love…theatre. A proud member of the Actors Equity Association (AEA) his favorite regional and touring productions include Cabaret (Emcee), Six Degrees of Separation (Ben), Guys and Dolls (Nicely-Nicely Johnson), A Chorus Line (Mike), and Into the Woods (Rapunzel’s Prince).

Mr. Lineberger also spent several years dancing in the theme park industry (Dollywood, Six Flags Fiesta Texas) and on cruise ships (The Grand Princess, Princess Cruise Lines). Daniel can also be seen in the Universal Pictures film October Sky. The transition to Ballroom Dance came easily to him. Daniel’s “home” studio is Academy Ballroom in Knoxville, TN; however, he also teaches at Studio 125 in Cleveland, TN. In 2012, Daniel and his Celebrity Partner, Donna Elle, won the "OMG Award" at Dare to Dance in Chattanooga. This and every performance is dedicated to the loving memory of his Mother and Grandmother; and to Cole, Christa and "the Boog" – without which he would have no creativity.

Nelson Rodriguez
Teaching the Art of Social Dancing and Dancesport for over 30 years, Nelson specializes in teaching/training competitive and non-competitive students, beginner to advanced, in all styles of dance. His style and charm are demonstrated in his choreography with competitive students as well as novice wedding couples. Nelson is able to achieve great results in improving and fine-tuning his students’ dancing abilities. His expectations are high and demanding but are tempered by his outstanding skill, expertise and a “fab” sense of humor. 

Nelson began his career as a professional dancer in Baton Rouge, LA. As a Professional Ballroom Dancer, he has reached high levels of excellence in teaching, competing, choreography, and professional demonstrations. 

Nelson's professional accreditations include membership in the National Dance Council of America. He holds Licentiates with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in both the Ballroom and Latin American branches.

As the ballroom coach for Covenant College in Chattanooga Tn, since 2004, his students have placed high at the many amateur and collegiate competitions that they have attended. For his area of expertise, Nelson’s students excel in the latin and rhythm divisions.

Known for his wit and patient demeanor in his approach to teaching children and young adults, Nelson has taught in the school system of many elementary and high schools through out Georgia and Tennessee for the past 10 years. Some of the the schools include McCallie High School and GPS(Girls Preparatory School) in Chattanooga,Tn; Dalton High School, Christian Heritage School, Gordon Lee High School, and Dalton Middle School in Georgia; Cleveland High School in Cleveland,Tn.

Nelson is the affiliated ballroom teacher for the Junior Cotillion of Dalton, which is headed by Ms. Rita Fordham of Dalton. The program just completed its 9th year. Junior Cotillion is designed to give young people instruction and practice in the courtesies that make life more pleasant for them and those around them; to give them thorough training in standard ballroom dance; and to provide opportunities to practice and enjoy these skills at memorable parties, balls, dinners and events, complete with decorations, refreshments, favors and prizes. 

Bringing activity and socilizing to their membership, Nelson has taught private and group classes at the Fairyland Country Club at the top of Lookout Mountain in Tn. for 8 years.

Rhonda Tinsley
Rhonda teaches dance at Chattanooga Dancesport.  For years she has specialized in Bellydance. In recent years she has incorporated Burlesque, Pole Fitness and most recently Hawaiian Dance. She has scored with extremely high marks in her ballroom dance certifications and is qualified to teach American style ballroom dance and is also a certified massage and neuromuscular therapist.
