HEALTH CARE REFORM IN THE NEWS:
Senator John Kerry calls for bold action on health care.
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) wrote in a Boston Globe opinion piece that “We need big ideas and bold solutions, not more of timid Washington tinkering around the edges.… We don't want to reinvent the wheel on healthcare; we need to take what's already working for those of us who are lucky and make it work for the millions of Americans being passed by. And we need to improve quality and lower costs for those with coverage today.”
Andy Stern, President of the Service Employees Union, calls on the business community to force Congress to act on the health care crisis.
Andy Stern, the president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), wrote in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece: “The problem isn't policy, it's leadership. And I don't mean Washington, D.C. The political class in both parties is full of words and bereft of action. They are not going to provide the answers until they are forced to. That force must come from the business community.”

Former Senator and Center for American Progress Distinguished Senior Fellow Tom Daschle reinforces Andy Stern’s call for the business community to provide leadership on health reform.
In The Wall Street Journal, Sen. Daschle said Stern was "exactly right on the need for business leadership to push for health reform” and calls on shareholders and board members “to take a stand as well." Kaiser's Daily Health Policy Report has a segment of Senator Daschle’s Wall Street Journal piece.

Affordable health coverage for all Americans would provide a basic level of economic security for American families and allow them to save for retirement, plan for their children’s education, or buy a home. It’s wrong for anyone who works hard and plays by the rules to go without health care or be driven into economic hardship by health care costs.
The Center for American Progress Action Fund is dedicated to advancing affordable health coverage for all Americans by bringing public focus, media attention, and policy community engagement to this issue. Become a health champion today to join our efforts and track our progress.
