What is Grassroots Fundraising?
In the Grassroots Fundraising Website tool, you can choose from these three ways to fundraise:
Personal Fundraising Page: This option is a great way for people interested in raising funds to support an event or accomplishment. For example, if you are interested in having your wedding guests donate to Komen MA instead of bringing a gift, or if you want to have donations made in celebration of your birthday or bar mitzvah, this is the option for you!
You can also create your own web page to support an event, celebrate an accomplishment, honor a personal friend or hero, and remember a loved one.
Individual Fundraising Event: This option is specific for those individuals who are interested in hosting and event to raise awareness and funds for Komen MA. These sort of events are things like bake sales, office pink days, and little league fundraisers. A great example is a group of middle schoolers from Springfield, MA who collected donations for their own charity walk as part of a math class project.
Third Party Event: This option includes, but is not limited to, individuals and/or organizations such as corporations, franchises, self-insured entities, community individuals, church and school groups, and sporting groups wishing to put on a large-scale event with a specific fundraising minimum. For example, Catwalk for the Cure is a Third Party event which raised $10,000 from a fashion show featuring professional models, breast cancer survivor models, and local celebrities.
**ALL Grassroots Fundraising Pages must be approved by Komen MA. You will be notified via email within three business days of approval.**
Should I make my event a Third Party Event?
There are additional benefits to creating a Third Party Event, but it can involve more commitments than you may be planning for. Take the time to review What You Need to Know First, before making your decision.
I completed the registration and have access to my web page. Does this mean I am approved?
While you do have immediate access to online tools after you complete the registration process, it does take up to three business days for your page or event to be approved. Our staff needs this time to review your event, discuss any additional necessary information, and verify that your event meets the requirements detailed in the agreement.
You will be notified via email within three business days of approval.
Do I get to use the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Logo?
Sorry, no. You must obtain written permission from Komen MA to use the Affiliate's logo and/or trademarks, in the form of a Letter of Agreement (Third Party Events). Simply completing the Registration for a Grassroots Fundraiser does not constitute permission from Komen MA to use its logo or trademarks. You are granted non-exclusive license to use the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® name, komenmass.kintera.org domain name, and the specific sub-domain assigned to your Komen MA Grassroots Fundraising web page.
Does Komen MA help plan or pay for my event?
While we are able to provide guidance for your event, we do not handle financial obligations or administrative tasks on behalf of any Grassroots Fundraiser such as distributing invitations, recruiting participants, sitting on planning committees, compiling RSVPs or selling tickets. If the event is approved, you should be prepared to provide all of the support necessary to organize and conduct the event, including publicity and committing all funds required for the event.
How do I get my fundraising dollars to Komen MA?
You can make an electronic payment directly to your Fundraising Page or you can mail checks or money orders to the address below. Please include a printed donation form with any contributions submitted via the mail, as it contains event specific information so that Komen MA can properly credit your event. A PDF Donation form can be found and printed directly from your Grassroots Fundraising page.
Can my supporter's mail payments to Komen MA?
Yes, checks must be made out Susan G. Komen for the Cure - Massachusetts and must be accompanied by a printed donation form from your fundraising page to properly credit you or your event. We cannot, however, accept checks made out to your specific event. We encourage you to direct your supporters to your Grassroots Fundraising Web Page to make payments.
A supporter of my event is requesting a receipt for tax purposes, how can they get this?
Only supporters who donate directly to Komen MA, via your webpage or via mail, will receive this. Contributions to your event by way of an entry fee, or contribution at the event are not entitled to a tax deductable receipt as they are supporting your fundraising efforts, not Komen MA directly.
Will I be notified of the donations in my account?
When you log into your account, you will be able to see the list of donors that have made a contribution to your account. In the event that you would like to send a note to your donor, you can click on his or her name so that you can have access to his or her mailing address. You will then be able to check the box next to his or her name indicating you have sent him or her a personal note.
When will donations mailed in show up in my account?
Sometimes on the website, I see the word "team" next to an event name. Why?
Yes, we realize this can be confusing, but don't worry. The software utilized to provide you with these tools is on a "team" event platform, and there are certain pieces of text that we are unable to edit. It will not make any difference in your event process.
