Welcome to Bio-Ball 2012

The Competition:
Bio-Ball is a one day basketball tournament involving 16 local biotech and pharma companies and 16 Special Olympics basketball teams. The 16 participating companies each field a basketball team. That team is then paired with a local Special Olympics Massachusetts basketball team forming an integrated and unified team. The 16 “teams” are then divided into two divisions and spend the day competing in both individual skills and 5 on 5 competition. At the end of the day, a championship game determines the winner of Bio-Ball.

Fundraising:
The event is sponsored by all of the providers that support the local biotech community with all of the proceeds going to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts.

For the first time we will also be holding a fundraising competition! Last year over $5,000 was raised through individual participants fundraising so this year we're going to have a contest and award prizes for the top individual and team fundraisers! When you register you will receive a fully customizable personal webpage with all the tools you'll need to raise money from friends, family, colleagues and whomever else you can think of!

Volunteers and other individuals contributors may also donate even if they are not a member of a participating team.

History:
We had close to 600 people at last year’s tournament and this year will be even bigger! We will once again be back at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge! However, we will be a month later than normal with the event scheduled for Saturday, April 28th.

Since BioBall began 7 years ago, the event has raised almost $490,000 for basketball programs and activities at Special Olympics Massachusetts… and we’re striving for more! The state-wide end to the Winter Sports season for Special Olympics Massacusetts is their annual Winter Games where the cost for the basketball programming surpasses $150,000!

Volunteers: You do not need to play or know Basketball to Volunteer at this wonderful and exciting event.

We need volunteers for various jobs throughout the day! You can select the morning shift starting at 7AM, the afternoon shift starting at 11:30AM or come all day. Please register via link in the left hand side toolbar that says Volunteer Registration and choose the time frame that works for you. You can list your preference of responsibility from the Volunteer Opportunities list on the Left Hand side toolbar. We will do our best to accommodate you. If you need to reach our volunteer coordinator Sylvia Beaulieu you can do so by sending an email to sbeaulieu@therichmondgroup.com.

We will have a contest for the company that brings the most volunteers!!!! You will get breakfast, lunch and a T-shirt. Parking is available. WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU THERE!!!
