Concern Marathon Madness Team Raises over $34,000 for Education!
Congratulations to the 15 runners who ran as part of the Concern Marathon Madness Team on Sunday, November 6, 2011! Over 45,000 athletes from around the world ran through the streets of New York on a spectacular fall day. Concern Worldwide could not be prouder of our runners for not only in demonstrating their athletic prowess but raising over $34,000 (and still counting!) to support Concern’s Education in 13 of the poorest countries.
Thank you to all the team members (including those who had to drop out due to injuries but still raised funds for Concern): Hillary Alberts, Denise Brouder, Allyson Brown, Andrew Burke, Linda Busetti, Danielle Daley, Noel Donovan, Rosemary Dooley, Michael Dwyer, Mick Dyson, Cindy Ko, Christopher O’Fee, Jennifer Norris, Eric Davis, Simonetta Siligato, Eduardo Garcia Rolland, David Del Conte, Kelvin Ong, Declan Breslin and Alan Reynolds.
A special thank you to the dozens of friends, family and co-workers who sponsored the team and to our volunteers who helped make the day a smashing success. Concern salutes in particular Noel Donovan and staff of Eamonn’s Bar & Grill, who hosted a fabulous pre marathon dinner as well as Fergal Burke and the staff at Genesis Bar for helping the team, friends and family celebrate in style after the marathon!
Concern would also like to acknowledge our honorary Concern Marathon Madness Team Coach, Brendan Donoghue, for his incredible commitment to Concern and for his running advice to the team over the last couple of months.
Funds raised from the 2011 Concern Marathon Madness Team will support Concern’s education programs directly benefitting 500,000 children-and, indirectly, millions more in their families and communities-in 13 countries. Concern takes a uniquely holistic approach to education that integrates a number of key elements: quality of teaching, instructional as well as learning materials; engagement of parents and the community at large; overcoming cultural and economic barriers to girls' education; preventing gender-based violence at schools; and helping local and national governments strengthen their schools systems overall. Because of the 2011 Concern Marathon Madness team and their fundraising efforts, Concern can help change the lives of so many.
